The part that actually eats your week
Ask AI for a social post and you'll get a social post. Ask it for twelve, across four weeks, and you'll spend the whole month typing the same corrections: that's not our green, the logo goes bottom-right, our name is not hyphenated, stop putting a rocket ship in the middle of everything.
That re-explaining is the real cost. Not the writing. The formatting, the color-matching, the reminding.
A branding skill removes it.
What a branding skill is
A skill is a saved set of instructions that produces a specific kind of output. You write it once. After that you call it by name and the AI applies everything inside it.
A branding skill holds your brand: colors, fonts, logo, voice, layout habits, the rules you keep having to repeat. Once it's saved, it travels. The AI doesn't care whether you're building a slide deck, a one-pager, a PDF, or a video — it applies the same brand system to all of them.
The slides used in the session were built with one. Nobody formatted them. That's the point.
Build it by letting the AI interview you
The build started with a single line: create a branding skill for my company — plus one addition that did most of the work.
Ask me any questions you may have, or any additional information you need to build this out.
That sentence is the technique. Left to itself, AI fills gaps by guessing, and a guess that looks confident is still a guess. Invite the questions and you fill the gaps instead.
Four questions came back: what should this produce, where should the brand details come from, is this one-off or reusable, which ad channels. Answering them took about ninety seconds and produced a far better skill than a longer opening prompt would have.
Two things to hand it while you answer:
Your website URL, not just your business name. Names collide. A link removes all doubt about whose brand you mean.
Your logo file, at the highest resolution you have. Save it into the skill once and you'll never hunt for it again. A transparent version that works on light and dark backgrounds is worth the extra minute.
Build it with your best model. Run it with any of them
Use your strongest, slowest model to create the skill. That's the one step where the extra quality compounds, because every future output inherits it.
Once the skill exists, a faster and cheaper model can run it — most of the thinking is already stored in the file. Skills are also largely portable across the major AI tools right now, so what you build in one place is usually usable in another.
Corrections compound
Here's the part worth internalizing: the first output was not the finished product.
The first pass of ads came back with the right colors, roughly the right layout, and a placeholder where the logo should have been. No photography. Text sitting on flat blocks of color.
So the correction went back in — here's the logo, use it every time, and update the skill so I never have to say this again. Then: always build in a background image, never ship a wall of text, here's an example I like.
The ads regenerated with the logo in place. The skill kept the change.
That's the whole loop. Redline once, save it, move on. Do it five or six times and you have a tool that produces in minutes what used to take hours plus two rounds of feedback from your team. Your boss gives you a note; you don't just fix the file, you fix the skill.
Skills stack
One question in the session got at something useful: is it better to build one enormous branding skill, or several small ones?
Small and isolated. A branding skill you can point at anything gets used constantly. A skill built for one narrow deliverable gets used the week you build it and then forgotten.
Then you stack them. A skill can call another skill — a marketing skill that says if the branding skill is available, load it too. You call one thing; both run. The slides in the session worked exactly that way: a slide-deck skill pulling the branding skill in behind it.
Try this before the next session
Open your AI tool of choice and ask it to build a branding skill for your business. Paste your website link. Add: ask me any questions you need before you start.
Answer the questions. Upload your logo.
Use it on one real thing this week — one ad, one flyer, one email header. Find the first thing that's wrong, correct it, and tell the AI to save the correction into the skill.
You now own a tool that gets better every time you use it. Skills are worth watching over the next year, and for anyone doing their own marketing, the branding skill is the one to start with.
Learn fast. Build right. Gain traction.
