Missouri's workers are ready for AI. We help them prove it.

Missouri's workers are ready for AI. We help them prove it.

The workforce shortage isn't coming — it's here, and it's structural. Make Missouri AI-Ready equips the people already on the job to put AI to work in their own industry, starting with healthcare and reaching every corner of the state.

THE PROBLEM

The shortage is structural.
The math doesn't reverse.

Across Missouri, employers can't find the workers they need — and waiting won't fix it. The cause is demographic: an aging population, fewer people entering the workforce, and in rural communities, no nearby pipeline to recruit from.

"We have the patients and the work. What we don't have is the people — and there's no one left to hire."

"I can't pull a nurse off the floor for a two-year program. The training has to happen on the job."

Here's the thing

When you can't add workers, the way forward is to help the workers you already have do more. And for the first time, there's a tool that makes that possible at scale.

WHY NOW

AI just became usable by the people already doing the work.

Until recently, putting AI to work meant hiring specialists — exactly the workers a shortage makes impossible to find.
That changed. Today's tools are used in plain language: a nurse, a scheduler, an administrator can direct a capable system without writing a line of code.

That puts Missouri at a decision point. The state is already attracting major AI investment. Whether Missourians capture its value — the wages, the opportunity, the relevance — depends on whether the workforce is ready to use it. Communities that get AI-ready win. The ones that wait watch the opportunity settle somewhere else.

Training built for the workers
you already have.

Training built for the workers you already have.

Missouri's colleges do essential work preparing new graduates. But the person already on the job can't pause their career for a degree — and the AI skills their work needs are too new and too specific to wait. That calls for a different kind of training: fast, practical, built with employers, and earned without leaving the job.

So we built one. With Saint Francis Healthcare System and the Missouri Hospital Association, Codefi created the Healthcare AI Integration Specialist — a registered apprenticeship recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor, among the first in the nation for an AI integration occupation. It's taught inside real clinical work from the first hour — not generic AI applied to healthcare afterward.

Credential without leaving the job

Tier 1 · Foundational

Understand the tools — and use them safely

Trainee begins with the fundamentals: what AI does well, where it still needs their judgment, and how to use it safely inside a HIPAA-governed environment.

No technical background required — just the confidence to use these tools without putting patient data at risk.

Any employee · 12–20 hrs

Tier 2 · Applied

Put AI to work on the daily grind

Next the trainee applies AI to the routine parts of their day — drafting standard documentation, summarizing notes, and clearing repetitive admin

The busywork that pulls clinicians away from patients starts getting handled, so more of their time goes back to care.

Builders, role-specific learners, leaders · 68–124 hrs

Tier 3 · Specialized

Build tools that fix real problems

If the trainee goes furthest, they learn to build small AI tools that solve specific problems in their own department.

They finish with a nationally recognized credential, more valuable to their employer and more secure in their livelihood, having never left the job.

Employer-sponsored apprentices · 145–185 hrs + 2000hrs OJT

"Is AI taking jobs?"

In a worker shortage, the logic runs the other way: you can't be replaced when there's no one to replace you with. AI fills the gap an unfilled position already left open — it makes existing workers more capable, not redundant.

Beyond Healthcare

The same model,
built for any industry.

Healthcare is where we start because the shortage bites hardest there. But the approach isn't healthcare-specific — it's a way to make any incumbent workforce AI-ready inside its own real work.

An industry-agnostic AI Integration path takes the same shape — literacy, applied skills, and building real tools, contextualized to the work your people already do. With potential to extend to manufacturing, agriculture, and other industries where Missouri's regional strengths drive demand.

STatewide reach

Starting in healthcare.
Built for all of Missouri.

Delivered statewide

The pilot is anchored in Southeast Missouri with Saint Francis Healthcare System. From there, Make Missouri AI-Ready scales statewide through the Show-Me Network — Codefi's partnership with the efactory at Missouri State University — reaching rural and mid-market communities by connecting them to the broader economy, metro partners included. We strengthen our regions by linking them together, never by setting one against another.

Aligned with the state's own agenda

The initiative is aligned with Governor Kehoe's Executive Order 26-02 and the national Make America AI-Ready agenda — a working answer to the workforce challenge the state has already named. With potential to extend beyond healthcare to manufacturing, agriculture, and other Missouri industries.

Make Missouri AI-Ready is supported by an upcoming announcement of federal funding support that will help carry this work from regional pilot to statewide scale.
