Chris Hunter had never written a line of code. Six weeks later, he had a working revenue management app that hotel owners can use to run a live, automated profitability score on a potential purchase — no spreadsheet, no back-and-forth emails required.
The problem: a good business, running on manual math
Chris manages the entrepreneur program at Elevate Branson, where he helps people start and grow businesses. Outside of that, he's a revenue management consultant in the hospitality industry, working with hotel owners across the Ozarks.
Before Idea to App, when a prospective buyer wanted to know if a hotel was a smart purchase, Chris built the answer by hand: a spreadsheet, a string of emails, and a manual walk-through of purchase price, annual revenue, operating expenses, and loan terms. Every deal meant redoing the math from scratch.
"I had zero prior experience in software development," Chris said. "I didn't know I could build something like this myself."
The build: Vibe Labs, The Foundry, and six weeks
Idea to App runs on Codefi's Vibe Labs platform inside The Foundry, a guided, step-by-step build environment. Chris didn't need to learn to code — he needed to know his business, and the course gave him the framework to turn that knowledge into a working tool.
Over the six-week program, Chris built an app that does two things his manual process couldn't:
Runs a full profitability calculation and returns an immediate viability score for a hotel purchase. Calculates true cost per room night, accounting for the commission Expedia, Booking.com, and other online travel agencies take off the top — a number hotel owners routinely miss until it's already cost them money.
He also directed the AI tool through the finer points most non-technical builders assume are out of reach: labeling input fields, formatting large numbers with commas for readability, and setting the app's color scheme to match his brand.
"You don't have to be a computer programmer to build something that actually works," Chris said.
The outcome: a lead-generation tool, not just a class project
Chris isn't filing this app away. He's planning to build it into his hotelrevenueman.com site as a lead-generation tool for his consulting practice — a live demonstration of his expertise that prospective clients can use before they ever book a call.
He credits the course facilitator Garrett with making the six weeks work: breaking down technical concepts without jargon and keeping every student in the cohort engaged and on pace.
"It retrained my brain to see where AI could solve the repetitive parts of my business — and where the next opportunity actually is," Chris said.
That shift didn't stop at the hotel app. Chris is now scoping AI-driven inventory management and demand forecasting for a new AI vending machine he recently installed at a client property.
What's next
Chris and Codefi are continuing the conversation — including a look at bringing practical AI tools to Elevate Branson's lunch-and-learn events, and exploring collaboration through the Show Me Network.
If you've got a business problem you're solving by hand right now — a spreadsheet, a manual process, a calculation you redo every time — Idea to App is built to take you from that problem to a working application in six weeks. No coding background required.
